Consulting

The financial clarity your business has been missing.

Most small business owners know their revenue. Few have a clear picture of their profitability, their financial trajectory, or whether their business structure is actually working in their favor. Smith & Company brings CPA-level financial expertise to the questions that matter most – so you can make decisions with confidence instead of guesswork.

WHAT WE HELP WITH

Fractional CFO & controller services

Get the financial leadership of a CFO without the full-time cost. We build and maintain your reporting structure, lead budget and forecast cycles, and give you the financial visibility to run your business like a larger company: monthly financial reviews, KPI dashboards, and strategic guidance on where the numbers are pointing.

Business entity & structure advice

LLC, S-Corp, sole proprietor – the right structure depends on your income, growth plans, and how you want to pay yourself. We analyze your specific situation and give you a clear recommendation, including the tax impact of making a change and how to execute it correctly.

Cash flow and profitability analysis

Revenue isn't the problem – cash flow usually is. We dig into where the money is actually going, identify margin leaks, and build a picture of your true profitability by client, product, or project. If your business feels busier than your bank account suggests, this is where we start.

QuickBooks Online setup & cleanup

A poorly configured QBO file produces numbers you can't trust. We set up your chart of accounts correctly for your industry, clean up miscategorized transactions, and build a file that actually reflects how your business works – so your reports mean something.

New business startup advisory

Starting a business in Georgia? We help you choose the right entity, setup your financial systems from day one, understand your tax obligations, and avoid the costly mistakes most new owners only learn about at year end. Get the financial foundation right before the books get complicated.

SIGNS YOU MIGHT NEED THIS

Consulting clients come to us from two directions – existing clients who’ve grown into bigger financial questions, and new clients dealing with a specific problem they haven’t been able to solve on their own. Either way, a few signs usually point here:

  • You’re profitable on paper but always short on cash
  • You’re not sure if your LLC or S-Corp election is actually saving you money
  • Your QuickBooks reports don’t match what you think is happening in the business
  • You’re growing fast and need someone to build a real financial reporting structure
  • You’re starting a business and want to avoid expensive first-year mistakes
  • You’re making a major decision – hiring, buying equipment, taking on debt – and want a financial gut check first

If any of these sound familiar, a single conversation can usually clarify whether and how we can help.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Both. Some clients need a single project – a QuickBooks cleanup, an entity review, a startup setup. Others bring us on as an ongoing fractional CFO, with monthly check-ins and continuous financial oversight. We scope each engagement based on what you actually need.

Project-based work is quoted at a flat fee after an initial conversation whenever possible. Ongoing fractional CFO or controller engagements are priced as a monthly retainer.

No – we work with consulting clients independently. That said, clients we already serve for bookkeeping or taxes often get more from consulting because we already know their business inside out.

Most accountants answer the question you asked. Consulting is a structured engagement with a defined scope, deliverables, and ongoing accountability – not a 10 minute call squeezed into tax season. If you need more than a quick yes-no, consulting is the right fit.
